Blue Ribbon Scans (formerly My Future Translations)

This site is dedicated to scanlation stuff, particularly hosting scans of manga magazines that we use often.

My Future Translations was the group name under which I (sierracomix) and Kuriri (Poppun) scanlate. When the group was made in early 2023, it was just me using machine translation. After I posted a video about Cho Kuse's anime in April 2024, (on its 30th anniversary!) Kuriri popped up and offered to help with translating either the anime or manga. We ended up starting with the manga, and since then we've been working together translating a bunch of stuff.

The old group title, My Future Translations, is derived from a mistranslation of "Kuse ni Narisou": My Future Habit. Admittedly I kinda hated that, but for the longest time had no good reason to change it, so it stuck. But with a restructuring, we finally rebranded to Blue Ribbon Scans!

We tend to focus on mainly old shoujo, and a bit of yuri on the side. Our next escapade will be a yuri reboot of an old shoujo series ^-^

Thanks to the Nakano Yayoi Archive for enabling me to fill out some of the following entries.

Scanlating this has been just a treat! But also...just...a...treat!... We have all but one chapter now, but many of the magazine chapters were printed in horrible quality and require special care to be taken for the scanlation to look even kind of alright. But that said the series itself has been very fun to scanlate and is just a fun series overall. Much enjoy!

I don't really understand why Ms. Nakano gave up on doing chapter titles after chapter 7. Weirder is she brought them back just for the final chapter. Weird stuff!

I first covered the Blu-ray BOX bonus chapter. (25.6, DMCA'd from MD.) Anon (T-san), Liz, and I are actually all members of Aoi Shoujo Scan, and these ILTV releases are therefore functionally Aoi Shoujo releases- but since I had already established myself as the bonuses gal, and since I do everything but the TL on these anyway, we've kept doing them under MFT. Point being, depending on your standards you may wish to either remove almost everything on this list or add Aoi Shoujo releases starting with Ch.44.

It was originally sort of astounding that there wasn't any other yuri on this list...Then I got into an untranslated yuri reboot of an old shoujo series. Right up the team's alley!

Kuse ni Narisou

Story: Yoshimura An
Type: Miniseries
Serialization: Nakayoshi, 1993/02 - 1993/04

Team status: Dormant
Future plans? Unlikely.

The one-shot (three-shot?) that was later followed up with a full series, Cho Kuse. It's also the only part of the manga that was directly adapted by the anime in any notable way. Ironic, considering it's also the only part of the manga it doesn't share a title with.

This was my very first scanlation, way back in early 2023. Hell, the first 26 pages were originally done before I even knew to align and level them. Kuriri redid the script in 2024, and the current pages are fully rescanned and have an updated typeset that's now up to our modern standards.

Originally sold as a furoki item for the February 1996 issue of Nakayoshi. We scanlated for more authors while covering this booklet than I had in general prior! We scanlated it for the Nakano Yayoi short of course, and it's a decent little one-shot for being just 16 pages long.

Totsuzen Parallel!
とつぜん☆パラレル!

Author: Nakano Yayoi
Type: Series
Serialization: RunRun, 1994/11 - 1995/09

Team status: Dormant

A RunRun-only title which was not covered in full by Miss Dream's scans at the time Kuriri became interested in it. She convinced me to buy the missing issue, and now that the series' Japanese scans are complete, we decided to scanlate it.

The series itself is sort of just Furry Isekai, as I commented on in the chapter 1 afterword. The main characters manage to swap worlds with versions of themselves from a world where the humans are instead various bipedal animals, and need to find their way back home.

If you're gonna call us furries for covering this series, uh, blame kuriri. But like it's less furry shit and more animal-themed kids' show.

A Nakayoshi title which directly follows up Chou Kuse. It has higher highs, but it also has lower lows. Koiketani being one of them. Overall, well worth a read if you liked Chou Kuse or Kanoko Momogumi.

Ch. 4 - Risky Egg Love (Hitomi, issue 1989/02)

A compilation of some of Ms. Nakano's early oneshots, seemingly carefully selecting the best of her early works. I've only read Risky Egg Love, as we covered it because I was feeling down- but it's genuinely the best single title I've read from Miss Nakano.

I would like to go back and complete this for completion's sake- but to be honest I just don't feel particulaly drawn to any of the other oneshots.

Kuriri and I's first collaboration! Boy, this one took a while. 10 months for 20 chapters!

This series is why I even read 90s shoujo. I've been a Cho Kuse fan since late 2022, when I stumbled onto one of the crossover games it appeared in and subsequently got hooked. I've spent all this time since trying to assemble everything in one place and archive it all. Bonus points for English translations.

The first 6 chapters use a few scans which were created via a misconfigured ADF. Once Kuse is cleaned up, I'm going to rescan all the ADF pags.

Fun fact, our reader has an exclusive updated version of chapter 14. It's my favorite chapter, so I wanted to give the scanlation a face-lift...but it would be a jarring quality difference if it was posted elsewhere.

Kanoko Momogumi!

I covered this title at the dawn of my scanlation endeavors, entirely on my own. After replacing the MTL Kuse scanlation, it's my oldest upload on MangaDex. The scans are from an HP scanner and the translation sucks, so I intend to eventually redo this one.

Planned/Under consideration/Need materials

Originally, the team was going to be essentially shut down, as I wouldn't have time to fill the like 4 roles I currently do. Scans, cleans, typesetting, QC... A lot to do! However, we've had a change of plans. I don't want to stop scanlating whatever random-ass mangas I come across, so I've decided to just take a more minor role or two and bring some newbies aboard to do the rest. To go with, we've got a rebrand to Blue Ribbon Scans!

This series is awfully seinen... Very suggestive... I frankly am not sure if it should be tagged as ecchi. Might do. But that said...

TRANSY YURI, MY FAVORITE /// As of writing I'm going through a bit of a Princess Knight arc, because Sapphire's character trait of being a girl raised as a boy who just wants to be a normal girl really sticks with me as a trans woman. It's so hard to find manga that does that kind of thing any justice... but Sapphire's gender aspect is impressive considering the time it came from. And then, fwahhh, there's a reboot of the series that keeps the gender stuff and is yuri on top of that??? peak fiction.

This is the series that got me to rebrand MFT rather than shut it down. I had to see to it that this scanlation happens. So I am! It'll be our next project after Gakuen Tengoku, and I could not be more thrilled to start. Like, seriously, the reason I'm updating this page right now is that I have no outlet for my excitement about this series.

Our team is composed of three Princess Knight fans, and two of us are also yuri freaks. The series is right up our alley, minus the suggestive part.

Minna de...Nakayo P
みんなで…なかよP

Author: Nakano Yayoi
Type: Series
Serialization: Hitomi, 1989/11 - 1990/08

Future plans? Unlikely.
Read: No page

I would like to scan and possibly scanlate Minna de, Miss Nakano's first full-fledged series, but despite having a round 10 chapters, there's no tankoubons. So like Tengoku, the chapters are very hard to come by and even when you find them they're poorly printed. As of writing, we're missing two chapters.

Hitomi issues released in the 80s have a particular problem with purple ink. It bleeds. Chapter 3 and possibly more will require unbearably extensive restoration by either myself or AI, and I sure can't do it. In that scenario, a disclaimer will of course precede the chapter(s).
